Kingston of Hickory Memory Care Leader Earns Certification

Kingston Residence of Hickory is proud to announce that Trisha Thomas, Kingston’s GEM Program Leader, has recently earned her PAC Certification through Teepa Snow’s nationally recognized advanced training program. Ms. Thomas is one of only three people in North Carolina who became certified in 2014.

PAC (Positive Approach to Care) Certification teaches awareness and knowledge to meet the complex and unique needs of individuals suffering from Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.  This level of education provides more in depth knowledge and exposure to a variety of skills, care partner task expectations, and environmental support modifications that will impact quality of life, safety, and future direction and guidance for all those in relationship to people living with dementia. PAC Community Training requires an investment of time and a commitment to spreading person-centered awareness through the Positive Approach™ to Care practices. Certified individuals demonstrate a mastery of basic care techniques and complex communication ability while serving as a qualified resource to a family, community or agency.

Ms. Thomas has already provided training to Kingston’s Nursing staff, and is preparing a presentation for the families of Kingston residents, as well as being the featured speaker in upcoming Kingston community events.

After obtaining her CNA license, Ms. Thomas began her career at Kingston in 2008 as an Assistant to the Activity Director.  She now leads Kingston’s GEM program, focusing on our residents with advancing Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.  Kingston Residence of Hickory is the only Assisted Living Community in the area that provides person-centered activities through a PAC Certified Trainer.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to benefit from Trisha’s certification. The quality care we provide only happens because of the commitment of the people who work here,” said Susan Allshouse, Executive Director at Kingston.

Kingston Residence of Hickory has been serving the Unifour area since 1989.  It offers engaged and fulfilling retirement living with luxury and privacy.
